Tech visionaries like Ray Kurzweil predict a singularity where humans and AI merge, and humanity is “uplifted” – a narrative that has strong religious parallels (transcendence, Rapture of the nerds, etc.). The conversation around AI is enriched (and sometimes distorted) by the tropes fiction has instilled.
